A Warwick property company has been thanked for their support following the opening of a new playground in Lapworth.
Children from Lapworth and the surrounding area are enjoying a brand new public playground after a range of organisations including AC Lloyd answered a plea from a local resident to improve the out-of-date facilities on Old Warwick Road.
Grants were awarded by Warwick District Council, the Rural West Community Fund and Lapworth Parish Council, with AC Lloyd providing support for the duration of the refurbishment, which follows a ‘Scandi’ style design brief and caters to children of all ages.
Clare Shales, local vet and mum-of-two, approached Lapworth Parish Council, seeking support to transform the space next to the Village Hall.
Clare won support from the council and started fundraising in 2017, securing funding from the National Lottery, Tesco’s community fund and local charities such as the Dorridge Fun Run.
Cllr Clive Henderson, Chair of Lapworth Parish Council, said: “When Clare attended the Parish Council meeting in 2017, we couldn’t have been more pleased to help and support her drive to improve the playground facilities.
“I’d like to thank the District Council, AC Lloyd, Clare Shales and the Lapworth Charity for their support and initiative to deliver the new playground for young people in the Parish.
“I’d encourage local residents with young children to use it and also to come forward with ideas like Clare did to continue to make Lapworth a truly wonderful village to live.”
Clare Shales said: “When we moved to Lapworth in 2010, we loved the lovely walks along the canal but felt the playground could be improved to keep our boys entertained.
“Having always fundraised, I wanted to get involved in the local community to make a difference, so I approached the council with the idea.
“It’s been a real pleasure helping to bring this project to life.”
A birds nest swing, a ‘you and me’ swing for two and an agility trail will keep younger children entertained in the new playground, while older children will be able to enjoy a ‘supernova’ roundabout and ‘sky carousel’ as well as climbing frames, with traditional swings for all ages.
Alistair Clark, managing director at AC Lloyd Homes, said: “The Lapworth Village Hall Playground now provides an exciting and safe environment for children of all ages to enjoy, and hopefully they will do so for years to come.
“It has been a fantastic community effort to bring this all together, and we are extremely proud to have been involved.”
